Ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας, συμμετέχων στις εργασίες της Αγίας και Ιεράς Συνόδου, της οποίας αποτελεί σύνεδρο και κατά το παρόν εξάμηνο, συγκληθείσης από 26ης έως 28ης υπερμεσούντος μηνός Μαΐου, εγένετο δεκτός εις ακρόασιν υπό της Α. Θ. Παναγιότητος, του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου κ. κ. Βαρθολομαίου, κατά την διάρκειαν της οποίας, επέδωσε στον Παναγιώτατο την άρτι εκδοθείσα μελέτη του με τίτλο: «Ο Καθεδρικός Ναός Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης (Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm)».
Η νέα αυτή μελέτη του Σεβ. κ. Κλεόπα, 800 σελίδων στην Ελληνική γλώσσα και 620 σελίδων στην Αγγλική γλώσσα, εξεδόθη από τον Εκκλησιαστικό Οργανισμό της Αποστολικής Διακονίας της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος, με την φροντίδα του Γενικού Διευθυντού αυτής, Πανιερωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Φαναρίου κ. Αγαθαγγέλου και των αξίων συνεργατών του, με αφορμή την επέτειο συμπληρώσεως 50 ετών από της δωρεάς του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης από την λεγομένη «Καθολική Αποστολική Εκκλησία» στην Ιερά Μητρόπολη Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας.
Η εν λόγω μελέτη διαιρείται σε τέσσαρα κεφάλαια, αρχής γενομένης από της αποκτήσεως του Καθεδρικού Ναού, επί αρχιερατείας μακαριστού Μητροπολίτου κυρού Παύλου, στο ιστορικό των προηγηθέντων γεγονότων, στα εγκαίνια, στις εργασίες της πρώτης φάσεως αποκαταστάσεως του Καθεδρικού Ναού και στην εν γένει λειτουργική ζωή.
Το επόμενο κεφάλαιο, αναφέρεται στην αρχιερατεία του νυν Μητροπολίτου κ. Κλεόπα, όπου ιδιαίτερη μνεία γίνεται στην όλη παρουσία και στην εξωστρέφεια που σημειώθηκε τα τελευταία έτη, στις εθνικές επετείους, στις επισκέψεις Κληρικών και επισήμων, αλλά και στην δεύτερη φάση αποκαταστάσεως του ναού, η οποία περιλαμβάνει τις εργασίες της εξωτερικής αποκαταστάσεως, το 2019, και της εσωτερικής, που άρχισε το 2020.
Γίνεται, επίσης, ιδιαίτερη αναφορά στην τοποθέτηση αγιογραφιών, την κατασκευή και τοποθέτηση του νέου ξυλογλύπτου τέμπλου, με 27 εικόνες, και την γενικότερη αισθητική και λειτουργική αναβάθμιση.
Το τρίτο κεφάλαιο του βιβλίου, είναι αφιερωμένο στις τρεις Πατριαρχικές επισκέψεις, γεγονότα εξαιρετικής σημασίας για την ζωή της Ι. Μητροπόλεως, καθώς οι εν λόγω επισκέψεις συνιστούν κορυφαίες εκκλησιαστικές στιγμές, οι οποίες επιβεβαιώνουν την ζωντανή σύνδεση της τοπικής Εκκλησίας της Σουηδίας με την Μητέρα Εκκλησία.
Το τέταρτο και τελευταίο κεφάλαιο, περιλαμβάνει το παράρτημα του φωτογραφικού υλικού και συγκεντρώνεται πλούσιο υλικό, όπως, γκραβούρες, αρχιτεκτονικά σχέδια, παλαιές φωτογραφίες. Το υλικό αυτό αποτελεί αυτόνομη ιστορική πηγή.
Ο Παναγιώτατος Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης συνεχάρη τον Σεβ. Μητροπολίτη Σουηδίας κ. Κλεόπα για τον μόχθο της καταρτίσεως της παρούσης εκδόσεως και για την εν γένει συγγραφική του προσφορά, παράλληλα, εξέφρασε και τον έπαινο της Μητρός Εκκλησίας προς τον άγιο Φαναρίου κ. Αγαθάγγελο τόσο για την έκδοση του παρόντος έργου, όσο και για το πολυδιάστατο έργο της Αποστολικής Διακονίας.
Ακολούθως, ο Σεβ. κ. Κλεόπας, επέδωσε στα Μέλη του Ιερού Βουλευτηρίου από ένα σώμα της νέας μελέτης του, όπως επίσης, στον Άγιο Αρχιγραμματέα, Πανοσιολ. Αρχιμανδρίτη κ. Βοσπόριο, τον Πανοσιολ. Κωδικογράφο κ. Ευλόγιο, εκτελούντα επί τω παρόντι χρέη Υπογραμματέως, καθώς και στον Άρχοντα Διδάσκαλο του Γένους της Μ.Χ.Ε. και Διευθυντή του Α΄ Πατριαρχικού Γραφείου, Ελλογιμ. κ. Κωνσταντίνο Δεληκωνσταντή.
Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden’s New Book Presented to the Ecumenical Patriarch
His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, who is serving as a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod during the current Synodal period, participated in the deliberations of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, convened from May 26th to 28th, 2026.
On this occasion, His Eminence was received in audience by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, to whom he presented a copy of his newly published study entitled “Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm” («Ο Καθεδρικός Ναός Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης»).
The new publication by Metropolitan Cleopas, comprising 800 pages in the Greek edition and 620 pages in the English edition, has been issued by the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece under the supervision of its General Director, His Excellency Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion, together with his distinguished collaborators.
The publication commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the donation/transfer of the Saint George Cathedral of Stockholm by the Catholic Apostolic Church to the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
The volume is divided into four chapters. The first chapter traces the acquisition of the Cathedral during the episcopacy of the late Metropolitan Pavlos of blessed memory, presenting the historical circumstances that preceded the transfer of ownership, the church consecration, the first phase of restoration, and the liturgical life of the Cathedral in its formative years.
The second chapter is devoted to the episcopal ministry of the present Metropolitan, His Eminence Cleopas. Particular emphasis is placed upon the growth and outreach of the Holy Metropolis in recent years, national commemorations, visits by clergy and distinguished guests, as well as the second phase of the Cathedral’s restoration. This phase included the exterior restoration completed in 2019 and the interior one started in 2020.
Special reference is made to the installation of new iconography, the construction and placement of a new hand-carved wooden iconostasis bearing twenty-seven holy icons, and the overall aesthetic and liturgical enhancement of the Cathedral.
The third chapter is dedicated to the three Patriarchal Visits to Sweden, events of exceptional significance in the life of the Holy Metropolis. These historic occasions bear witness to the living bond between the local Church of Sweden and the Mother Church of Constantinople, while underscoring the pastoral concern of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for its faithful in the Scandinavian countries.
The fourth and concluding chapter contains an extensive photographic appendix, bringing together a rich collection of historical material, including engravings, architectural drawings, archival documents, and rare photographs. This material constitutes an important historical source in its own right and substantially enriches the scholarly value of the publication.
His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch congratulated Metropolitan Cleopas for the considerable labour invested in the preparation of this monumental study and for his wider contribution to ecclesiastical scholarship.
At the same time, His All-Holiness expressed the appreciation of the Mother Church to Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion for both the publication of the present work and the multifaceted ministry of the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece.
Following the audience, Metropolitan Cleopas presented copies of the volume to the Members of the Holy and Sacred Synod, as well as to the Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Vosporios; to the Very Reverend Codicographer Evlogios, presently serving as Deputy Secretary; and to the Archon Didaskalos tou Genous of the Great Church of Christ and Director of the First Patriarchal Office, the Honorable Mr. Konstantinos Delikostantis.
